Research Activities
Synthesis and characterization of metal oxide nanoparticles for Photocatalytic & electrochemical activity
Abstract
At present, nano chemistry is concerned with the development of novel methods for the synthesis and characterization of chemical systems within the size range of about 1 to 100 nm. The interest in nanoscale objects is due to the exhibition of novel electronic, optical, magnetic, transport, photochemical, electrochemical, catalytic and mechanical properties which are technologically very useful. Metal oxides nanomaterials (Ex. TiO2, V2O5, Ta2O5, Nb2O5, ZnO, CuO, MnO2, Fe2O3, Cr2O3, etc). are prepared by chemical methods like Hydrothermal, Solvothermal, Ionothermal, Ionic liquid-assisted hydrothermal/solvothermal methods, combustion methods.
The as-prepared materials will be characterized by XRD, FTIR, XPS, TG- DTA, BET surface area, optical properties by UV- Visible spectroscopy, photoluminescence spectroscopy and morphology by SEM and TEM. The characterized nano metal oxides will be used in photocatalytic degradation of toxic organic dyes, hydrogen generation via photocatalytic water splitting reaction and electrochemical sensing of heavy metal ions like Cu, Pb, As, Hg, Cr, etc.
